Awesome.

Let me just start by saying that this week's episode rocked.

For one, it was really well done. I loved the opening shot of Jack's eye as he woke up in the jungle. I loved the subtle similarities between waiting in the airport for the Ajira flight and waiting for the original Oceanic flight (Hurley reading a comic book like Walt did, Sayid in handcuffs like Kate was, etc.). I loved the symbolism and literary/biblical references that Julie mentioned. I loved everything about it.

As for some questions we need answered now:

- What on earth did Kate do with (to?) Aaron? She looked so freaked out when she was laying on Jack's bed that my immediate thought was that she killed him. Not sure if she has that in her (although she did kill her father), but that was my first thought.

- What was Ben's "loose end" that he needed to tie up? And who beat his face into a bloody pulp? I really like the theory that he went to kill Penny (and I feel a bit sheepish that it didn't occur to me). It makes sense though, and that would give Desmond a reason to go back to the island, since right now he seems pretty intent on never going back.

- Was Ben really supposed to be on that plane? I was probably reading too much into it, but he seemed to have a guilty look about him as he got on the plane at the last minute. Plus, he seemed to be flat out lying to people throughout the episode (e.g., when Jack asked him if he had known about the Lamp-Post). He wasn't on the original Oceanic flight - does that matter?

- Now that Jack and co. back on the island, will the flashes stop? Are they in the same time as Sawyer, Juliet, etc.?

- Who is the guy who told Jack he was sorry that his friend had died? I don't doubt that we'll see him again, especially since he was the only non-Oceanic 6 person sitting in that part of the plane (besides Ben and Sayid's cop lady).

- What did Sayid do to end up in handcuffs? And why would he be going to Guam?

- Jin is part of the Dharma Initiative now? Heh?


And now for a couple theories...

- Ben mentioned that Locke has to take the place of Christian on the Ajira flight (since Christian was in the coffin on the Oceanic flight). Jack's visit to his grandfather seemed like a somewhat random scene (since, to my knowledge, we hadn't met his grandfather before). There doesn't seem to be any such thing as coincidence in LOST, so why would they throw that scene in there? Jack could have easily gone to his mother's house to get something of his dad's to put in Locke's coffin. Plus, when Jack mentioned that he might be going away for a while, it almost seemed like his grandfather knew what was going on. Maybe this whole island thing extends farther back in Jack's family than we had realized.

- The writers made quite the effort to recreate the original conditions of the Oceanic flight, but what about the pregnant chick? I'm thinking Kate might be pregnant. Think about it. It would help recreate that aspect of the original flight. She and Jack had just gotten "reacquainted." She's clearly upset about whatever happened with Aaron, so she may be wanting to fill that void. Aaaand it would make for some interesting drama if/when she reunites with Sawyer on the island. Yep, Kate is preggers. You heard it here first.

Can't wait until next week to hear about Bentham's death.

holy cow, what an ep

so one thing inspired by the premiere:

symbolism-tastic- locke seems to be set up as a christ-like savior. richard tells locke that he must die. ben believes that, in order to save everyone, they have to bring locke back to the island and (there's clearly the assumption) he will be brought back to life as a result (resurrected). also found it interesting that all of the time stamps used in the episode were three years...three years, three days- what's the difference in lost time.

Padding self on back for that one- this episode had nothing if not signs of the locke-jesus link.

oh so when ben left jack to say he had to "tie up some loose ends." I immediately thought oh, he has to help locke tie his noose (forgetting that (i guess?) locke is already dead and what not), but michele's guess was that he went to kill penny since he promised widmore he'd kill his daughter.

I maintain that the widmore-ben showdown (that may include ben killing penny) will be a season 6 event. but it also occured to me that widmore might have another daughter and it's this person who ben will kill... for instance, people have wondered if maybe charlotte is widmore's daughter (who is now dead- due, in part, because ben got the island off kilter).

UPDATE: so i'm re-watching the episode and noticed that before ben says he needs to go tie things up and whatnot, jack finds him praying and then he lights a votive candle...interesting set up indeed. because then he stops to tell jack that jack is doubting thomas before going and doing something that leaves him all bloody. now, i'm wondering if (instead of trying to kill penny) ben did something to aaron- esp given that kate is acting all weird the entire ep.

anyways, tons of big questions, fun literary/biblical references ("The Lamp-Post is a reference to the street lamp that lights the way into Narnia in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.") and revelations to deal with. I hope everyone will contribute their own take/observations from this episode. ok, break!

Wacky Wednesdays....

So, I'm very excited for Lost tonight. Last week didn't have too many surprises....

Eloise is Faraday's mom.....we figured that......

Charlotte has been on the island before....we already knew that because she was the FIRST to get a nose bleed.....

Faraday talked to Charlotte when she was a girl.......this was not really a shock seeing as how we already know he can travel in time and that he's in love with her. Makes sense, right? Wouldn't you go back to save the woman you love? The only issue I have with this is.....if his mom is Eloise, the woman who WARNED Desmond that he can NOT change the future no matter what he tries to do, then why wouldn't Faraday know that? That's TWICE now that he has tried to tamper with things....the first time he did it by giving Desmond a new memory and then he tries to save Charlotte. Interesting.....you would think with a mom like that he would know better.

As for Jin and Sun.......of COURSE, Jin is alive.......of COURSE Sun is gonna go back and get him........I guess she'll be leaving that deliciously adorable daughter of hers in Korea since she's already with Ben and the rest of them in LA.

Overall, it was a good episode...but all it did was confirm all the things we already suspected. The next step, of getting back to the island, is going to be the MOST interesting. I mean, seeing how Ben and Locke got off the island was crazy, so I've been waiting...and waiting....to see how they're going to get back.

It was all leading up to that moment last week, when it just ended. POOP! So, I am anxiously awaiting tonight's episode to see how they get back.

Also, Ben was supposed to bring ALL of them to go back to the island and we're still missing Kate, Hurley, Sayid and tehcnically Sun's daughter and Aaron, since they were both on the island too. How will they get the rest of them to the island now??? Hmmmm......

Thoughts on episode 3

I loved this last episode. The scene with Sawyer watching Kate deliver Claire's baby was pretty powerful, and I usually don't care too much for that whole love story bit. Bringing back a pregnant Rousseau was a nice touch too.

I totally didn't see the whole Jin thing coming. Like Julie, I don't at all understand a) how he could have survived the freighter explosion, or b) how he was within the island's radius when it disappeared. If you think about it, the helicopter carrying Jack, Kate, Sun, etc. was headed back towards the island when the freighter exploded. So how could Jin be within the island's radius when he was farther away from the island than the helicopter?

The more I think about it, the more confused (confusined?) I am by the difference in time on the island vs. the mainland. Initially, I was thinking that 3 days on the island was the equivalent of 3 years off the island (a clever ploy used by the writers when they decided they wanted Walt - who clearly has aged physically since leaving the island - to come back and make some cameos?). But, that can't be possible, since the scenes we're seeing in LA are happening after Locke is dead (and in the scenes we're seeing on the island, Locke is obviously alive and well). So, I think I've given up trying to figure out the timing of things. At this point, it's hard enough to keep track of everything that happens, period.

Two questions I'm interested in getting the answer to:

1. Why did Sayid stop working for Ben?
2. How is Ben going to convince Sun that Jin is still alive?

soo much in this one to try and unpack.

Jin! whoa, that shocked the crap out of me. So it looks like it's 18 years ago island time and Jin (since he can speak English) survived the freighter explosion, was within the radius and is on the same time with faraday, locke, juliet and company.

Questions:
Was Jin the only survivor of the freighter explosion? How on earth was he within the radius?

What is the deal with Sun and Hurley's visit to his grave? When they visit, is Jin dead? Or is he alive, and they don't know that? Basically, when did that happen?

Bringing this to my chief and larger question: How does time on the island relate to time off the island? Are we to assume that the events are happening simultaneously or what? It seems that 3 years have elapsed off the island but on the island we're still dealing with days. *brain ache*

So Ben wants to get a blood test on kate to prove what he already knows- that aaron is not kate's son. this is his plan to get kate to go back? i think jack could have convinced her and she may have gone back for sawyer anyways.

All the nose-bleeding has got to stop. It's just gross. Some people are saying it's due to previous exposure to the island and Charlotte and Miles are affected because they've been to the island before (or even born on it)?

I'm very curious what the deal is with Ajira Airways.
