I have issues with considering locke a "christ-like" figure becuase he is NOT alone in being the leaders of the others. We know that Ben was also their leader and we are led to believe that Richard was once their leader too. Richard says that their leaders are carefully chosen...from birth. We also know that Richard, taking locke's advice, visits him on the day of his birth, then revists him a few years later to "test" him to see if he belongs with their people. Locke fails the test and they leave him, even though he ends up on the island some day anyways.
When Daniel said "all of us" are going to die, I think he was referring to EVERYONE on the island, from BOTH times. We know that richard doesn't age, but I imagine even an h-bomb would do him some damage. But Daniel knows that if they die, in ANY of the times, they will cease to exist in all the others, including the future.
The young Charles was a bit of a hot-head and had no problem killing his friend for giving away information. I'm just curious how they all (in their youth) came to be on the island to begin with. Richard makes it appear that it is THEIR island and other people from the outside world came to invade it. Does that mean that widmore and ellie and the others were BORN on the island? I thought babies couldn't be born there if the woman was impregnated on the island? So they must have also been BROUGHT to the island.
Or, option 2 is that they used to be able to be safely born on the island until more recently and when they started having issues, they brought Juliet there to help. If they had ALWAYS had those problems, I imagine they would have brought someone to figure it out long before.
One last thought...the island is supposed to have healing powers for those who live there and especially those who are "special," like locke. Locke could walk again, but he also healed AMAZINGLY fast after being shot all the way through. If Ben is supposed to also have some great tie with the island, since he was chosen to be their leader, why is he not effected by the island in that way? Remember, he developed a tumor on his spine while on the island? We still don't know how on earth that happened. Just something to keep in mind.
I can't WAIT to find out "the way off the island" as Richard says it is privileged information. We know Ben gets off, and quite a few of the others, AND we know that Locke leaves. So there obviously is a pretty simple way. Hmmm.....
